3.6 inches of snow.  May not seem like a whole lot to those diehards living in Buffalo or Cleveland where this amount is considered a mere dusting.  But in Las Vegas 3.6 inches of snow has proven devastating.

The rare winter snowstorm dumped the most snow in the valley in nearly three decades, grounding flights at the city's airport and forcing the shut down of schools and several major highways.

"This is the most snow we've had in Las Vegas in almost 30 years," said Chris Stachelski, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "It's a significant historical event."

The 3.6 inches of snow was the highest accumulation recorded in the month of December in Las Vegas since the start of official records in 1937. The previous record was 2 inches of snow, which fell on Dec. 15, 1967.

Airport officials said normal flight operations would resume as conditions improved, which was expected throughout the morning hours as the snow has since tapered off an temperatures were expected to reach 40 degrees by mid afternoon.
