LONDON, UK – MicroMillions III has set a new record for largest online poker festival, with 1,308,994 entries across the 100 events, beating the previous best of 1,294,889 set in the first MicroMillions series back in March, and the 1,288,221 entries from MicroMillions II in July.

The biggest winner of the latest 11-day extravaganza, which took place from November 15-25, was ‘axel397’ from Russia. The player became the MicroMillions III Main Event champion after topping a field of 61,072 players in last night’s $22 tournament to win a first prize worth $140,062.92. A three-way deal at the final table also resulted in six-figure payouts for ‘Senter268’ and ‘numeromis’ both of the Czech Republic.

The prize pool for the Main Event reached $1,221,440 and the tournament lasted 12 hours and 20 minutes. It meant the champion ‘axel397’ earned about $11,356 an hour for his efforts and achieved an ROI of 636,649.636% on his $22 investment. Fourth-placed ‘supersimu’ didn’t do so bad either, having qualified for the Main Event via a 350 FPP satellite and then winning $55,233.51 for an ROI of 986,213%. ‘SoyDelGlobo’ still holds the record for largest MicroMillions win, after he pocketed the first prize of $157,218.68 in the MicroMillions II Main Event back in July.

Key stats

The $22 NL Hold’em Main Event was just one of 100 micro-stakes tournaments held over the past 11 days, which has seen scores of recreational poker players turn a few dollars into thousands. The record-breaking 1,308,994 entries led to $8,276,083.13 in prizes being awarded throughout the series, going way beyond the initial $5 million guarantee but falling just short of the $8,289,638.19 won by players in the original MicroMillions series. MicroMillions II, that took place in July, awarded a total of $8,193,862.75.

Leaderboard winner

There was a sense of déjà vu when looking at the final MicroMillions III series leaderboard, as Team PokerStars Pro Marcin ‘Goral’ Horecki topped it again having already taken the crown in the inaugural MicroMillions back in March. This time he scored 505 points – almost 100 points more than second place – following cashes in 34 events, one of which was a title win in event 62. The Polish pro gets his hands on the MM III trophy and a $16,000 PCA package for his monumental efforts.
