Gambling Addict Pretending to be Rugby Player was ‘Too Fat’

Christopher Hoare, age 30, claimed to be playing for the London Wasps Rugby team.  The staff of a London hotel where Hoare racked up a £2,400 bill became suspicious, however, as he appeared far to "overweight" and "out of condition" to play such a physically demanding game.

Hoare, a gambling addict, was on the run from police for perpetrating various frauds, it was quickly revealed.

Among his crimes, the Daily Mail noted:

After Hoare split with partner Leanne Cooke in September he stole her laptop, smashed her money jar, slashed her bras and tops in two and sent her text messages threatening: “I promise I will make headlines with my antics.”

Hoare also stole a man’s phone and used his identity to take out a £150 payday loan.

Previously, He was handed a year’s jail - suspended for two years - a year’s supervision order and 150 hours of unpaid work.

John Fitzgerald, defending, said at the time: 'It’s quite clear gambling is at the heart of all his offending. He knows his life will be of little value until he has conquered that addiction.'
