At the halfway point of the Soccer Betting Premier League season there have been a few surprises, not the least of which is Liverpool leading the way.  After 20 games Liverpool has a three point lead on Chelsea and a seven point lead on Manchester United.  It should be noted that United has two games in hand on both teams.

If Liverpool is not the talk of the league so far then it has to be Aston Villa.  They are sitting in fifth position, tied with Manchester United in points.  If a team can break through and get past the big four of United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool then it looks to be Aston Villa.  Another surprise team has been Hull. They were expected to struggle just to avoid relegation, yet they are in 8th place.  Bolton is another surprise team as they were expected to be in the relegation battle yet they sit in 11th place.

While there have been some surprise teams there have also been disappointments.  Arsenal definitely leads this group.  Although they sit in 4th place with 35 points they have lost a lot of games to inferior teams and not many people believe they will stay in the top four, let alone challenge for the top spot.  Not far behind Arsenal in terms of disappointing is Tottenham. The Spurs were not expected to be near the relegation zone this late in the season.  Manchester City has also been a disappointment considering expectations were very high before the year began.  Another team that is in trouble is Portsmouth.  They are in 10th place and manager Tony Adams could be on the way out if things don't turn around soon.

Teams that have slightly disappointed are Everton and West Ham.   Neither has looked very good of late.  Blackburn is struggling to avoid relegation and that was not expected this season.  Sunderland was looking poor until their last couple of wins.  Middlesbrough is a mess and probably is going to be in a relegation battle.

Chelsea and Manchester United are about where they should be.  United is coming on strong and look like they could easily defend their title while Chelsea is very much a part of the title picture.

Fulham, Newcastle United, Wigan, Stoke City and West Brom are right about where they should be.  Newcastle is not very good, nor were they expected to be.  Stoke City and West Brom are likely to be in the relegation battle all season.
