While the majority of people were nursing their hangovers today, online bookmakers were scrambling to take action on the New Year's Day college bowl games.
Three big Bowl games kicked off Thursday afternoon: The Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl and Capital One Bowl. The games got underway at 1 pm EST.
The Capital One Bowl featuring Michigan State vs. Georgia was giving bookies fits this New Year's Day. The line ranged anywhere from Georiga Bulldogs -7 ½ all the way up to -10 (the later line would be bet at Sportsinteraction.com with Michigan State at +10).
Penn State vs. USC in the 4:30 pm EST game had stabilized early on Thursday with more than 75 percent of online sportsbooks offering the line at USC -9. Penn State fans could get this one at +9 ½ at Sportsinteraction.com.
Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati in the Orange Bowl featured a line of either Cincinnati -2 or -2 ½ depending on the book.
"New Year's Day represents one of the bigger betting days of the year for online bookmakers who take action from US clients due to the enormity of the Bowl games being played out," commented Payton O'Brien, Senior Editor of the Gambling911.com website.
