France online poker venture, Partouche, is shutting down.

The company announced plans to cease existence effective next month (June 2013).

Partouche cited France’s stringent tax code, combined with a limited player pool, as reason for its failure.

The company endured much criticism last year for reneging on a guaranteed €5 million prize pool for the popular Partouche Poker Tour.  Reported cheating occurred at the 2009 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event via the use of hand signals to reveal player hole cards.

PokerUpdate.com had suggested back in September of this past year that Partouche Poker was on its way to shutting down.
