Free Sports Betting for Prizes Could be Introduced in New Jersey

For the time being, New Jersey will not be permitted to offer sports betting for real money, however, the Monmouth Racetrack is looking into a free sports betting platform for the upcoming Football season.

“We want to have it up and running for football season,” track manager Dennis Drazin told John Brennan of the Bergen Record. “Right now, it’s already a little late for basketball and baseball is well underway, too. So we’ll gear up for football.”

Individuals could win free hotel rooms and other prizes.   The track would likely partner with Resorts Casino in Atlantic City.  Bets would only be taken at Monmouth Racetrack and will not be offered online for the time being.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vowed to continue fighting for legalization of real money sports betting after a federal judge struck down a law that would have allowed it.

The New Jersey law, which Christie signed last year, had authorized sports betting at the state's racetracks and at Atlantic City casinos.
