Bookies in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will be taking plenty of wagers as we head into the 2015 NFL season with betting on the Cowboys taking center stage.

In 2012, Internet search queries for “NFL” in September reached an all time high in the Dallas area, indexing at the high of 100 (the previous peak in September 2011 was 84).  “Betting” remained constant at a peak of 54 over the past two years during the month of September.  In 2005, “Betting” hit the top of the index during that same month at 100, dropping only slightly in October to 91. “Betting Lines” search inquiries from 2010 to 2012 dropped by 12 points (58 to 46).

Not surprisingly, the Cowboys got off to a strong start in 2005, going 7-3 and this directly culminated with the amount of bets coming in on the team within the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Bookies will certainly be licking their chops hoping for an improvement with their franchise team, though it remains to be seen whether the Cowboys have gotten their act together for 2014 following another lackluster season.

Texas, like in most US states, bookmaking is illegal.  It is a Class A misdemeanor and punishable by either fines or some jail time or a combination of both.

That won’t stop guys and gals from placing bets and taking bets in this region of Texas
