In recent years, Super Bowl losers have managed to make it into the Playoffs.  There had been a multi-years drought prior to this time.

Expect the 49ers to continue the current trend as the talent pool has slightly improved with the addition of Anquan Boldin.

The quarterback situation remains solid with Colin Kaepernick having the ability to touch pass from the pocket while also proving a force from the ground. Every other aspect of the offense should be strong.

On defense, coordinator Vic Fangio’s 3-4 defense was among the best in 2012.

There is one weakness on the defensive side with the secondary, a primary reason being the departure of free agent starting free safety Dashon Goldson.

Some analysts believe the 49ers defense will not be as strong as in the past two seasons, but improvements with both the offense and special teams could offset this.
