New England Patriots fans and futures bettors alike got a scare Wednesday when starting quarterback Tom Brady left practice after suffering a left knee injury at the end of a passing play.

Two league sources have since said that Brady suffered a sprain and that the injury was not considered series.

Team president Jonathan Kraft also advised reporters about an hour after practice, “I’m under the impression that it’s probably not that serious, but that’s not a definitive answer.”

A Tom Brady injury is definitely a game changer for the Patriots and division as a whole. The quarterback suffered a serious knee injury in 2008 that ended his season.  Though they did manage an 11-5 regular season record, New England failed to make it to the Playoffs for the first time in a decade.

Oddsmakers remain cautiously optimistic following Wednesday’s scare.  Bookmaker continues to hold the Patriots at 7-1 odds of winning the 2014 Super Bowl and at 1-3 odds of winning the AFC East.
