The first interstate compact between two US states combining their respective player pools was set to begin Tuesday February 25, 2014.

Nevada and Delaware will join forces to deliver poker to over 4 million potential players.  That number is still half of New Jersey’s market.  The Garden State is the only other state outside of Nevada and Delaware that have legalized Internet gambling.

But Tuesday’s move is an important step towards building liquidity within the US legal online poker market.  Web gambling firms hope to develop a model similar to that of the multi-state Powerball system.

Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval were set to sign off on the arrangement Tuesday.

It remains to be seen as to whether New Jersey will join forces with the two states or forge relationships with other states to comprise a two-hub state system.

California last week unveiled draft legislation to permit online poker.
