In a rare move, Sportsbook.com began offering a 20 percent cash deposit bonus to anyone opening an online betting account for 2009 Super Bowl betting this weekend only.
Typically, the largest North American facing online sportsbook in terms of customer volume, does not move off its 10 percent cash bonus offer. But alas, it's the Super Bowl and every sportsbook is vying for the other guy's business.
"It's like the holiday shopping season," Gambling911.com's Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien quipped. "These online sportsbooks are all slashing their prices in an effort to compete with one another for Super Bowl bettors."
With the sportsbooks, that includes slashing prices on the actual line of the game, which some online gambling sites had at Steelers -6 ½. Sportsbook.com, for the time being, was staying pat at -7. Competition also includes the posting of what seems to be an endless number of Super Bowl betting propositions.
The 20 percent bonus equates to a free $100 for every $500 deposited. In order to bet online, one must open with a certain amount of money, which is not actually taken by the Internet sportsbook until bets are lost. Winning bets of course are placed back into the customer's account and can be withdrawn at any time.
The new 20 percent bonus seems to apply to only new depositors.
