A Minnesota man currently serving a four year prison sentence for property fraud  has been charged with running an online sportsbook with servers based in Costa  Rica.

Gerald J. “Maverick” Greenfield, 68, was accused of operating the illegal gambling business in a Bloomington, Minnesota district court.  According to the complaint, Greenfield took bets over the phone, via email and over a website from residents primarily located in North Dakota.  He is said to have received nearly $10 million in wagers over a four-year period.

Greenfield has been held in federal custody since escaping a Duluth, Minnesota prison last year.

The indictment was filed last year in April and only unsealed this week.
