Patriots vs. Dolphins Spread at -4.5 New England: Rob Gronkowski Ready to Play
The Patriots vs. Dolphins spread was coming in at New England -4.5 at BetDSI.com, one of the few online sportsbooks offering the number this low. Most were on the -5. 82% of those betting this game on that number were backing New England.
And there is good news for Patriots backers as star tight end Rob Gronkowski declared Monday morning his status for Sunday’s season opener.
"I'm good to go. I'll be playing,” he told reporters.
ESPN.com was quick to note that New England rarely tips off the press when it comes to their future intentions, especially regarding the status of players who may or may not be ready to take to the field.
New England -4.5 Miami/Total 47 
The odds are stacked against Miami here, with or without Gronkowski. New England has gone 23-6 Straight Up against fellow AFC East teams (8-2 vs. Miami in their last 10). They have won all 10 of their last season openers Straight Up. By contrast, Miami is 3-7-1 Against The Spread in their season openers. Betting the money line only requires a $21 wager to profit $10. This is probably a solid play under the circumstances.
New England closed 2013 with a less-than-stellar record on the road Against The Spread: 1-6.
Pay special attention to the UNDER here as it is 10-1 in the Dolphins last 11 games vs. the AFC East and 4-0 in Miami's last four games against the Patriots.
