Many Fantasy Football Leagues Won’t Allow an Adrian Peterson Cut
As Deadspin.com reported on Saturday morning, Fantasy Football players are reacting swiftly to the indictment of Vikings star Adrian Peterson by demanding their Fantasy league cut the deactivated receiver.
Some have done so while others have not.
Yahoo!, one of the biggest Fantasy Football leagues, issued the following statement:
We are actively monitoring the situation with Adrian Peterson. Until further information is known he will remain on the Can't Cut List.
Fantasy football leagues regularly maintain a "can't cut" list, to prevent players from upsetting the competitive balance of the league by dropping elite stars, Deadspin.com points out.
Peterson was ranked among the top Fantasy Football picks coming into Week 2 of the 2014 NFL.
In light of the Peterson deactivation, SportsGrid.com gave this advise to Fantasy Football players:
Matt Asiata becomes the quick pickup for anyone needing a running back, as he’s likely to see the bulk of the work in Peterson’s absence. Problem is, Asiata’s not all that great, so shelling out any more than $5 FAAB for him seems like a waste of money. If he’s a free add, do it. Even if it’s just to have an appreciating trade asset on your bench. Maybe you’ll get lucky and the Peterson owner in your league will overpay to get him, or he simply turns out to be good! There’s also the possibility that rookie burner Jerick McKinnon gets a piece of the action. McKinnon’s nothing more than a stash in deeper leagues for the moment, much like Lorenzo Taliaferroor Latavis Murray.
Sports bettors who were high on the Vikings following an impressive 4-0 preseason and Rams romp last week might also be banging their heads against the wall. Oddsmakers have nearly doubled the spread on Sunday's Patriots-Vikings game from -3.5 to -6 following news of Peterson's deactivation.
