The long time friend of Australian boxer Jeff Fenech is speaking out over an assault that left him bloodied and missing a tooth at the hands of Fenech.

Peter Mitrevski Sr told the Daily Telegraph he was asked to take the fall for a diamond deal involving the former champion - and was king-hit when he refused to co-operate.

"If the police don't charge him, I'm going to have to think very carefully about what I'm going to do," he said. "Why doesn't he just come out and say the truth of what happened?"

The Daily Telegraph can reveal that Fenech and Mitrevski - who have been inseparable for 30 years - were involved in a bitter feud over cheap diamonds in the weeks leading up to the punch-up.

The feud began when Fenech allegedly implicated Mitrevski when a plan to buy diamonds backfired. There is no suggestion Fenech was acting illegally.

The 44-year old Fenech was arrested and grilled for more than four hours over the allegations and admitted he wished the whole incident had never happened.

"I'm sorry for even arguing with my friend, it's something that I never wanted to do, and hopefully it can get mended," he said.

....Speaking of fights, we got a great one upcoming this weekend.  It's Miguel Angel Cotto as the big 1/22 favorite versus Michael Jennings, who pays 10/1 odds at Sportingbet.com

Jennings proclaims he is happy to be seen as the underdog.

The British fighter says: "I've been training for this since the day I started boxing," he said. "I wouldn't say I've faced anyone like Cotto before, but I'd faced no one like my last opponent [Jason Rushton], either. I'm not worried, I've got to be confident."
