The Chargers vs. Chiefs betting line opened at KC -2.5 but was coming in at San Diego -1 during the late afternoon hours of Saturday.  This is a critical game for San Diego.  Win and they are in.  75% of the betting public believes the Chargers will do just that.

Nobody is saying it will be a cakewalk by any stretch of the imagination though.  Playing in Arrowhead against a good Chiefs team and bitter rival won’t be an easy task.  That said, San Diego has beaten KC in four of their last five meetings.  While the Chiefs did beat San Diego on the road earlier this season, that win was by just three points and the Chargers are no doubt looking to avenge that loss.

The Chargers are 8-1 Against The Spread in their last 9 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game.

They are also 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game, 1-7 ATS in their last 8 vs. AFC and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. AFC.

When it comes to the Fantasy value for Chargers QB Philip Rivers, he is dealing with a bulging disk in his lower back even though that didn’t seem to matter last week in their win against San Francisco.

Rivers has enjoyed great success against the Chiefs.  He has nine wins, 278.8 passing yards per game, 8.5 yards per pass attempt, 23 TDs and 10 INTs.

Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith has been ruled out for Sunday’s game with a lacerated spleen.   Chase Daniel will start in his place.  He is considered a good fit for Andy Reid’s offensive scheme.  During the preseason he went 15-of-21 passing.

The Chiefs can still get in but will need to not only win but require both the Texans and Ravens to lose.
