The Grizzlies look to win their seventh straight game when they head to Phoenix on Monday and take on the Suns.

Memphis is on a tear as they've won six straight games and four of its last five ATS. An improvement on defense has been the catalyst for this team, as it has held opponents to just 82.7 PPG over its past six contests. The Grizzlies now face a Suns team that is scoring an uncharacteristically low 89.0 PPG over the past two games.

The Suns went into Golden State in their most recent game and lost 106-87 as 10.5-point road ‘dogs. Phoenix has still won two of its last three SU, but it has struggled with a 1-5 ATS record in its last six contests. These two teams have met twice this season, and the Grizzlies have won-and-covered in both matchups. They most recently met on Jan. 11, when Memphis won 122-110 as a 3.5-point home favorite. The Grizzlies have dominated this head-to-head series as of late, going 8-2 SU and 7-2-1 ATS in their past 10 meetings. Memphis has also won-and-covered in its past four trips to US Airways Center.

Over the last three seasons, the Grizzlies are 17-6 ATS in road games after allowing 90 points or less in two straight contests. They are also 40-22 ATS after a win by 10 points or more in that time. The Suns, however, are 31-18 ATS when the total is 200 to 209.5 over the last two seasons. They are also 34-20 ATS after playing a game as an underdog in that time as well. SG Vince Carter (Ankle) is out indefinitely for the Grizzlies and the Suns are not currently dealing with any injuries.

Memphis is one of the hottest teams in basketball right now and a lot of that has to do with the play of PF Zach Randolph (17.1 PPG, 12.2 RPG). The big man is coming off of an excellent game against Oklahoma City, finishing with 21 points, 18 rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes. He has now had a double-double in 12 straight games and gets to face a Suns team that he dominated on Jan. 11, ending up with 27 points, 17 rebounds and four assists in 42 minutes. That game was in Memphis however, and he struggled in his lone trip to Phoenix this season, scoring just 10 points in 29 minutes. He’ll need to use his size in this game to bully the much smaller PF Markieff Morris (15.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.2 SPG), who will likely guard him for a majority of this game.

C Marc Gasol (18.7 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.7 BPG) has averaged 15.0 PPG and 7.0 RPG in two games against the Suns this season. The speed of Phoenix gives him issues, but the team is now going a little bigger with C Alex Len (6.3 PPG, 6.0 RPG, 1.5 BPG) getting more minutes. Gasol will need to punish Len in the paint, where the Suns’ big man is prone to getting in foul trouble.

PG Mike Conley (17.2 PPG, 5.6 APG) has done very well against the guard heavy Suns, averaging 24.5 PPG and 9.5 APG in 35.5 MPG over the two games they’ve played. Conley is dealing with a banged up wrist and had just 10 points (4-of-12 FG) and three assists against the Thunder. He’ll need to regain his shooting stroke soon, as this team needs him in order to keep up its recent hot streak.

SF Jeff Green (16.4 PPG, 4.2 RPG) has not played the Suns as a member of the Grizzlies, but he did torch the team for 28 points with the Celtics on Nov. 17. The Grizzlies will need him to channel some of that offensive ability in what should be a relatively high-scoring affair.

The Suns are coming off of a brutal 106-87 loss against the Warriors and must now turn around quickly and face a red-hot Grizzlies team. PG Eric Bledsoe (16.9 PPG, 6.0 APG, 5.2 RPG, 1.6 SPG) is averaging 19.5 PPG and 2.0 SPG over the past two contests and has done well against the Grizzlies this season. He’s averaging 17.0 PPG on some pretty efficient shooting (50% FG) in their two meetings and he’ll need to use his speed to beat a much slower Memphis team up the court. He’s going to be going against Mike Conley, who is not 100% healthy and the Suns need him to outplay Conley in this one.

SG Goran Dragic (16.5 PPG, 4.0 APG) is really going to need to step it up in this game. Dragic is averaging just 7.5 PPG and 3.0 APG on horrendous shooting (35% FG) against the Grizzlies this season, and Phoenix needs Bledsoe’s backcourt partner to score the ball in order to win. He scored just 10 points (4-of-15 FG) in a loss to the Warriors after having two consecutive games with 20+ points.

PG Isaiah Thomas (15.1 PPG, 3.7 APG) has now scored just 9.5 PPG over the last two games after scoring 23.2 PPG in the previous five. Thomas will need to regain his scoring touch and he has done well against Memphis this year, averaging 17.5 PPG in their previous two meetings. The three guards for Phoenix will really need to push the ball because this team will not beat the Grizzlies in a half court game.

PF Markieff Morris (15.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG) is going to need to find a way to slow down Zach Randolph in this one. The forward is averaging 18.5 PPG and 5.5 RPG in two games against the Grizzlies this year, but if he’s going to help Phoenix win this game then it’s going to be on the defensive end.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
