Texas Senator Ted Cruz on Monday was the first to officially announce his U.S. Presidential campaign for 2016.  His odds of being elected were especially long at 40-1 at Sportsbook.ag.

Cruz, a conservative Republican despised by many on both sides of the aisle, made his announcement at the world’s largest Christian college.

"God's blessing has been on America from the very beginning of this nation, and I believe that God isn't done with Americans," Cruz declared at Liberty University, a Christian school founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell.

"I believe in you. I believe in the power of millions of courageous conservatives rising up to reignite the promise of America. And that is that is why, today, I am announcing that I am running for president of the United States of America."

Cruz did not set up an exploratory committee to determine his chances of success.  Early polls show a 4 to 6 percent likelihood of winning the Republican nomination.
