Don’t look now but Jordan Spieth sits atop the Masters leaderboard after Day 2. This could prove to be a killer for bookmakers who offered Spieth at 9-1 odds early on.
Heading into Saturday, Spieth was listed at -220 odds with a payout potential of $10 on every $22 bet (the $22 is refunded with the win). Betting was still available on the 2015 Masters in before and after play right up through Sunday morning.
Spieth has gone 1-2-2 in his last three starts on the PGA Tour. He made nine birdies — the most he's ever made in a round in a major championship — shooting an 8-under-par 64 in Day 1 of the first major of the year.
By Day 2 Spieth had broken the 36-hole record at the Masters.
On Friday, Spieth shot a 66, a round that no golfer bettered. That gave him a two-day total of 14-under-par 130, the lowest 36-hole score in the history of the Masters, one stroke better than the mark set by Raymond Floyd in 1976. Spieth’s score also tied the lowest two-round total in a major championship.
Spieth was the most wagered on contender at this year’s Masters.
