Cinderella Teams March Madness

Gambling911.com has examined a few of the likely 2009 Cinderella teams that should make this year's NCAA Tournament.   These are teams that nobody expects to actually win the championship, yet a few have managed to go the distance.   Cinderella teams - we dare say - make as big a splash as the actual top seeded favorites like North Carolina to win.  Seriously, we are as likely today to be familiar with a Davidson and Gonzaga as we are a North Carolina.

Last year's big Cinderella story was Davidson.  That team made it into the Elite 8.

Stephen Curry was making a case for Davidson to be part of the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

"We are 26-7. The seven losses are all against 20-win teams. We have some good wins against N.C. State and West Virginia," Curry began. "I think we showed we can play and actually win games. Things didn't go well late in the season, but based on last year, if we get a shot we can do something with it."

There is a far from remote chance Davidson won't get in.

Davidson has a dangerously high RPI of 69. A Southern Conference team has never gotten an at-large bid.

Creighton is a team that stands a better chance of getting in and could be the next Cinderella story, though others will argue they don't stand a chance in Hell.

Dangerous teams that stand a good chance of getting into the tournament include Portland State, which beat Gonzaga early on.  Virginia Commonwealth University (VSU) is also a team on the radar and widely expected to get seeding of 12 or lower.  Cleveland State knocked off Syracuse early in the season and have the ability to move deep into the tournament.   They should come in around a number 13 seed.
