Which team was getting the most betting action early for the 2009 NCAA Tournament?  That award goes to John Calipari's Memphis Tigers, a team that ended up with the second seed and was widely believed to be more deserving of a number one spot.

"The betting public is all over Memphis U," observed Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.  "They really have a lot of faith in this team considering the huge number that's been posted."

At BetUS.com Memphis was a -19 ½ favorite versus Cal Northridge.

Roman Modrowski of the Chicago Sun Times has gone out on a limb to say that Memphis will not only beat Cal Northridge (whether they cover the spread remains to be seen however), they will also win the 2009 NCAA Title.

"I like the Memphis Tigers to win it all this year. Losing Derrick Rose and a couple other players from last year's runner-up hurt Memphis early as it started 6-3, but John Calipari puts Tyreke Evans at the point and Memphis wins 25 in a row.  The 31-3 Tigers are the only team in the tourney with as few as three losses. The Tigers deserved a No. 1 seed, but that doesn't matter. As Bob Knight says, he went to the Final Four five times and was a No.1 seed just once."

The oddsmakers offer mixed reactions as to Memphis' chance of winning the championship.  Their odds of doing so range anywhere from 5/1 to 15/1.
