Baltimore Area Bookies, Sports Betting Agents: In High Demand

Baltimore area bookies and agents are easy to find.  Just go to any of the areas top sports bars or pool halls or just ask one of your buddies who either uses one or knows someone who does.  If you attend enough Orioles games, you are bound to bump into a local bookie.

Baltimore, the largest independent city in the US (one not belonging to a particular county) is a big sports town with the Ravens having won two championships in the last 15 years.  Baltimore is also home to Pimlico Racetrack, host of the second leg of the Triple Crown.

City bookies have moved towards using Pay Per Head businesses in order to manage their own clientele.  Pay Per Head shops like PayPerHead.com charge $10 per customer to provide full support including grading of bets, offering of customized lines, live in-play wagering, call centers and server/website management, data backups and regular vulnerability testing, personalized websites and more.  This is something a local just cannot provide to their clientele.

Baltimore and all of Maryland for that matter attract an unusual number of sports bettors searching out local bookies due to a crackdown in recent years on Internet sports betting in the state.  Only Washington State is more restricted to online gamblers than Maryland.

As such, bookies in the state tend to be in much higher demand when compared to other regions throughout the U.S.

While Maryland does make the simple placement of a wager a misdemeanor, actual bookmaking (typically tied to other activities such as racketeering) is classified as a felony.

The city does have a colorful history when it comes to Mafia elements and their ties to sports betting.  The Baltimore Crew was a faction of the Gambino crime family operating in that city from the 1920s until the 1990s.
