New Jersey online gambling sites are not immune to cyber attacks that have long plagued offshore wagering companies and those based out of Europe.  That was demonstrated this past weekend after four of the state’s Web casino sites were hit.

The attack was launched last Thursday and continued through Sunday, New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement Director David Rebuck has since confirmed.  The online gambling sector has long considered this period of time among the slowest of the year however.

"At least four casinos were impacted and experienced downtime," Rebuck said. "We're continuing to monitor."

The attackers threatened a more sustained attack unless an undisclosed Bitcoin ransom was paid.

Among the agencies now investigating include the Division of Gaming Enforcement, the State Police, the FBI and the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
