Footballer Dominic Matteo Declares Bankruptcy, Amasses £1mil in Gambling Debts

A former Liverpool and Leeds footballer Dominic Matteo has declared bankruptcy after accumulating more than £1million in gambling debts.

The news comes after an insolvency service in Yorkshire obtained an order against Matteo, who admitted to having a gambling problem back in 2011.

A spokesperson for the insolvency service said: “Mr Matteo will need to be interviewed to establish how many creditors there are and how much is due to them.

“A decision will also have to be made over whether to appoint an insolvency practitioner to handle the case.”

The bankruptcy was filed July 28 but was only confirmed now.
