There have been a few preseason injuries that are sure to impact College Football teams and already have resulted in a change of odds to win the College Football Championship as the new season approaches this week.
Michigan State linebacker Ed Davis may be among the biggest casualties of the new College Football season, although don’t tell that to the oddsmakers. They have actually slashed odds on MSU from 25-1 to 20-1.
The fifth year senior was an All-Big Ten honorable mention pick last season. He’ll likely be replaced by Sophomore linebacker Chris Frey, who registered 19 tackles playing in every game last season.
Oddsmakers must believe Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio will find someone better to take Davis’ place, quite possibly Frey.
Tennessee’s odds of winning the 2016 College Football Championship were never that great to begin with at 60-1, and while we haven’t seen much of a shift, the Vols have lost two top playmakers in preseason: defensive back Rashaan Gaulden and offensive lineman Marcus Jackson. Despite this: Tennessee is still a pretty big favorite to win at least nine regular season games. The Vols also lost safety LaDarrell McNeil to a neck injury for what should be the entire season.
The loss of Ohio State wide receiver Noah Brown coupled with the suspension of three backs/wide receivers, bears watching, especially when going up against the Hokies in Week 1. The line on that game, under these circumstances, is a bit high at -11. Virginia Tech has one of the best corner backs in all of College Football in Kendall Fuller.
