The United States of America ranks number one in terms of overall gambling losses by country, according to a report by The Economist, citing British consultancy H2 Gambling Capital.

U.S. gambling losses came in at $142.6 billion.

Number two on the list was China, with losses that tallied up to $95.4 billion.  We could see a reduction here in the coming year following that nation’s crackdown on a chunk of the high-roller activity patronizing the former Portuguese – now Chinese – gambling Mecca of Macua.

Japan ranks number three despite that nation making most forms of gambling illegal.   Japan suffered $29.8 billion in gambling losses over the past year.  Pachinko, and public sports (both legal forms of gambling in Japan) along with illegal gambling were likely contributing factors here.

Italy, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, Canada, France and Spain rounded out the final ten countries with the most gambling losses in the world.
