Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was still a -250 favorite to become the Democratic nominee for President of the United States ahead of Tuesday night’s first Democratic debate, one in which she will face a formidable opponent in Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Sanders was listed at 5/1 odds of becoming the Democratic nominee.  The first four primary states do provide Clinton with a decent size edge.

Iowa polls have Clinton and Sanders neck-and-neck while Sanders leads in New Hampshire.  Clinton leads by a wide margin in South Carolina and Nevada.  National polls have Clinton well ahead of Sanders.   The former Secretary of State and one time First Lady is also the odds-on favorite to become President.

Though Clinton and Sanders have rarely mentioned each other's names, they are clearly reacting to each other and their rival's potential weaknesses, notes CNN, which will host the debate.

Sanders took aim at Clinton's Wall Street record and Iraq vote over the weekend; she put him on the defensive on guns and his poor standing with minority voters.  Neither though plans to engage in the type of personal attacks that have permeated the current GOP race.
