DraftKings CEO Jason Robins admitted back in May that his company does not always comply with anti-gambling laws, and more specifically, the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act (UIGEA) that exempts fantasy sports.

Robins made the admission during a conference call with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association and the FSTA apparently had zero qualms about turning these minutes over to ESPN.

From Sports Illustrated:

“Jason acknowledged that Golf and NASCAR do not comply with the letter of the UIGEA, but argued that UIGEA was written when daily fantasy didn't exist,” the minutes of the call said, according to ESPN. Robins then explained why he believed golf and NASCAR would comply by UIGEA if the law was written with daily fantasy in mind."

Fantasy sports companies have to be wondering whether they should have much faith in the FSTA judging by their willingness to share such information with media outlets.

DraftKings tells ESPN that those comments were essentially taken out of context and have since been misrepresented.

“The purported FSTA board minutes are not a verbatim transcript, but rather the interpretation of a lengthy meeting by one non-lawyer reflecting what another non-lawyer said about a complex law,” the statement read.
