WPT Acquisition of RealDeck Could Let Players Host Own Online Poker Tournaments

The World Poker Tour announced Friday their purchase of RealDeck for $15 million.

The deal is significant in that one of the patents held by RealDeck involves providing players with a live dealer and actual cards instead of software.  They also offer P2P audio and video.

PokerListings.com speculates that this could result in the creation of private online poker tournaments from a player’s own home complete with their own live dealer.

It’s not clear exactly what the WPT wants to do with the company but as one of the biggest poker tours in the world it seems like a natural fit to provide some sort of online WPT event in the future.

The WPT itself was acquired by Chinese corporation Ourgame International Holdings for a cool $35 million earlier this year.
