Preakness Horses That Run Well on Mud – 2016: Exaggerator Sees 30 Percent of Bets
We are just a day out from the 2016 Preakness Stakes with a 90 percent chance of rain to fall from approximately 8 am until 4 pm with an inch likely. The result will be a muddy track that most favors Exaggerator at 3-1 odds.
We cannot stress enough how important it is to lock these odds in immediately as they are subject to change (and are almost guaranteed to be slashed) as we inch closer to the start of this race.
The rain could lead to Exaggerator finally beating EVEN-odds favorite Nyquist after losing to him in four previous races.
The wagering public at Bookmaker believes Exaggerator will finally get this accomplished as he was seeing the most betting action of any other entry at 30 percent. Nyquist was seeing 21 percent of the betting action.
Nyquist has yet to run in the mud while Exaggerator seemed to thrive in it at the Santa Anita Derby, where he enjoyed a huge victory.
Exaggerator has narrowed his losing margin against Nyquist in each race, with the closest finish two weeks ago in the Derby - 11/4 lengths. The Preakness Stakes track at Pimlico is much shorter.
"Along with his pedigree (a son of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin), his No. 1 physical attribute is his ability to recover, "trainer Keith Desormeaux said of Exaggerator and his loss to Nyquist.
It should be noted thought that Desormeaux is 0 for 8 against the undefeated Kentucky Derby winner.
