Exaggerator Seeing the Most Wagering Action Coming Into Saturday’s Preakness
- More than a quarter of Preakness Stakes bets coming in on Exaggerator
- Odds on Exaggerator had dropped slightly overnight from 3-1 to +285
- Exaggerator is 0-4 in races featuring Nyquist, who is yet to lose a race
- Nyquist, Exaggerator and Cherry Wine all love the mud with rain expected all day Saturday
Perhaps it’s a forecast calling for rain or his solid second place finish in the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago but it is Exaggerator at just shy of 3-1 odds seeing the most public love heading into Saturday morning.
Exaggerator was seeing a little over a quarter of the Preakness Stakes betting action compared to the Favorite Nyquist (-180) seeing around 17 percent.
Nyquist has beaten Exaggerator in four races thus far but the later enjoyed a statement victory in the mud of the Santa Anita Derby earlier this year. It should be noted that Nyquist did win the Kentucky Derby on what was considered a muddy and fast track following a freak downpour a half hour before the big race that had not originally been forecast earlier in the week.
"With a horse like Nyquist, I'm not overly concerned about the weather," Nyqvist trainer Doug O'Neill said. "As far as rain or shine, we're not going to change anything shoeing-wise He's going to wear the same shoes he's got on. We'd just love to have a beautiful day."
Another horse that has performed well in the mud is Cherry Wine at 33-1 and seeing around 8 percent of the betting action.
"I'll be one of the few people doing a rain dance," Cherry Wine's trainer Dale Romans said.
His horse broke his maiden by 9 ½ lengths in the slop.
