Odds to Win the PAC-12 North 2016: Stanford, Washington, Oregon

The odds to win the PAC-12 North had Stanford, Washington and Oregon in a near three-way tie as favorites anywhere from 2-1 to 3-1.

Each of these teams has relatively short odds to win the College Football Championship with Stanford at 35-1 odds, Washington at 40-1 and Oregon at 45-1 odds.

NationalChamps.net writes of Stanford:

Stanford is always going to have a solid offensive line because that is where they excel in recruiting. The obvious star behind them is Heisman runner-up Christian McCaffrey. He can sell tickets on his own. The wrench in the equation is finding someone to spell the lost senior leadership of departed quarterback Kevin Hogan. There are few holes to fill on defense but the holes that do need filled had some very big names. Once Stanford has a chance to settle in on a signal caller, the world will know how far the Cardinal can run. This will likely be their highest preseason ranking in a few years after their lustrous Rose Bowl blowout over a very good Iowa team.

Regarding Washington and the Huskies chances, Athlon notes:

Washington is a program on the rise under third-year coach Chris Petersen, and the Huskies have the necessary pieces in place to challenge Stanford for the Pac-12 North title.  Leading the way for the offense is a pair of sophomores – quarterback Jake Browning and running back Myles Gaskin. Additionally, the Huskies return three starters on the offensive line, and big-play threat John Ross is back at receiver after missing all of 2015 due to injury.

A defense that limited opponents to 18.8 points a game last season returns eight starters.

Oregon, with its massive fan base,

will play a key game Nov. 12 vs. Stanford.

At Nebraska is compelling, even more so if Scott Frost was still on staff. Hosting USC will be a big deal. And the Civil War is particularly appealing for the locals. But for Oregon to achieve its 2016 goals, it must defeat the Cardinal, the defending Pac-12 champion. The winner of this 21st century rivals has gone on to capture the conference crown in four of the last five years. And while last fall was an exception, recent history indicates the Duck-Cardinal survivor is a safe bet to go on and take the North Division.
