  • Billboard encourages betting on Donald Trump as US President at 3-1 odds
  • Trump is featured with a glowing orange tan next to US President Obama with quote “Orange is The New Black”
  • Bookmaker Paddy Power has yet to face any serious backlash from the billboard
  • Company has come under fire in the past for similar ad stunts, the worst of which featured betting on quadriplegic runner Oscar Pistorius’ murder trial asking “Will He Walk”

The folks at Dublin, Ireland-based Paddy Power have done it again, this time erecting a shock billboard in that city’s central location.

The bookmaker is asking people to place a bet on real estate mogul Donald Trump to become the next US President.  He is listed at 3-1 odds as the Republican nominee versus Democratic nominee and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Quoting the Netflix series “Orange is The New Black”, the billboard features Trump in “orange face” beside the first African American US President Barack Obama.  The color orange is often used to depict Trump as a result of his tan skin and/or orange/blondish hair.

Some expected a backlash, but to date the ad has garnered mostly praise.

Paddy Power is known for regularly being fined by the Advertising Standards Authority.

Two years ago, the company was widely condemned for offering a “money back guarantee” on the Oscar Pistorius trial should he be acquitted.  The betting firm added fuel to the fire by featuring Pistorius in the form of an Oscar statuette as part of a cross-marketing campaign looking to capitalize on the popularity of the Academy Awards in conjunction with Pistorius’ given name “Oscar”.  The caption read “Will He Walk”.  Pistorius is a quadriplegic runner who has won gold in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Paralympics.
