Michael Cera to Star in High Stakes Poker Flick ‘Molly’s Game’: Starts Shooting Soon
- ”Molly’s Game” to mark Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut
- Film to feature celebrities behaving badly, a busty hot poker host, the Russian Mob and lots of poker
- Some say “Molly’s Game” could be as good or better than “Rounders” when all is said and done
- Female poker pro Vanessa Rousso says nothing comes close to “Rounders” in capturing the energy and tension in the game
The highly anticipated high stakes poker flick “Molly’s Game” is set to start shooting this November and will star Michael Cera, Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba. This will mark the directorial debut of Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin.
The ingredients are all there to make this one of the best poker films ever made, granted it hasn’t even started shooting yet.
What the story consists of: Celebrities behaving badly, a busty hot poker host (that would be Molly Bloom), a seedy criminal element a la the Russian Mob and, of course, plenty of poker being played.
Until now, “Rounders” has long been considered the best poker film ever made.
“Rounders” came out in 1998 with little fanfare but would later become a cult classic amongst those familiar with the game. It’s what “Bull Durham” is to Baseball, “Rudy” is to Football fans and “Raging Bull” is to boxing fans.
Female poker pro and reality star Vanessa Rousso said ‘There have been a lot of movies about poker, but only “Rounders” really captures the energy and tension in the game. And that’s why it stands as the best poker movie ever made’.
Cera is in talks to play a character named ‘Player X’, who “develops a special relationship with Molly”.
