Eve Online in Chaos as Developer CCP Bans Gambling

Game developer CCP has announced that gambling on its popular Eve Online game will become illegal effective November 8.

For a game as time consuming as Eve, it’s a virtual death sentence, Polygon predicted on Thursday.

The policy follows in the footsteps of Valve ceasing all gambling on its platform this summer and an ensuing investigation into that game developer.

Like with Valve, certain skins have been accused of engaging in gambling activities. In this case, CCP accused IWantISK of being involved in large-scale real money trading, and has confiscated all currently held items and currency.

Eve Online was next on the target list, with CCP issuing the following statement:

“The third party service EVE Casino has been shut down in game, and all ISK and assets have been confiscated after multiple and sustained breaches of our Developer License Agreement. Permanent account suspensions have been issued against those involved".

Players of Eve Online can participate in a number of in-game professions and activities that include piracy, trading and combat.
