Gambling911.com takes a look at your Thursday Night NFL Football betting lines for Week 9 and what looks to be one of the best bets on the Falcons vs. Bucs game, that being Atlanta….but not so fast.

Atlanta Really Among the Best Bets for 2016 Week 9 NFL?

The public seems to think so.  After all some 90 percent of those wagering on this game were backing Atlanta.  But you know the old saying “the house always wins in the long run”. 

Last week the house (that being the sportsbook) got crushed with outright wins and covers by New England, Oakland and Dallas before saving some face with a Chicago upset Monday night.  This week the books will be looking for a little sweet revenge against the NFL bettors.

The line on the Falcons-Bucs game opened Atlanta -3, and with so much action coming in on the Falcons one would expect an immediate move above that number.  While not immediate per se, the books have bucked a bit, moving the line up to -3.5 at most shops and some going to -4. 

While we haven’t seen any books trending downwards most recently, one might expect a more aggressive move up off the 4 to encourage more action on Tampa Bay.

Bottom line is we don’t see a strong enough opinion by the books to back Tampa Bay but Atlanta will certainly do a number on these wagering sites should they manage to cover the spread.

Falcons vs. Bucs Head-to-Head Trending

Tampa Bay has won the last three games in this series and split wins in half over the last ten.  The favorite is 8-3-1 Against The Spread in their last 12 meetings.

The Falcons are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games while the Buccaneers are 1-5 Against The Spread in their last 6 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game. Tampa Bay is also 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games.

One of the more standout trends is Atlanta as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5 points going just 2-8 Against The Spread over the last three years, but more so, they are just 3-16 ATS as a favorite over this time PERIOD.

There is a reason why the betting public - and maybe fans as well - weren’t completely gung ho over Atlanta’s early success.  They are a mere 3-10 ATS in weeks 5 through 9 the past three seasons.

Not to be outdone, Tampa Bay has struggled Against The Spread at home, going 5-14 ATS in home games over the past three seasons.  They haven’t won any home games this season outright and are just 3-16 Straight Up at home over the past three seasons.
