Facebook and Twitter users have something else to celebrate and it all revolves around the first bet ever to be placed on top of the world.

BetOnline.com, one of the web's most popular online betting destinations, today announced that the company has embarked on an expedition to the summit of Mount Everest.  The BetOnline.com team will attempt to create a new world record by placing the first bet from the summit of Mount Everest.  "We intend to prove that our slogan: ‘Bet Online...From Anywhere!' is more than just a slogan.  With BetOnline.com, you really can bet from anywhere," said Eddie Robbins III, the company's CEO.

The company will donate $20,000 USD upon successfully summiting the world's highest mountain and placing the successful wager at BetOnline.com to the charity which receives the most votes from Facebook and Twitter users and is on the right side of the record-breaking bet.

"We are letting the world decide which two charities will be involved by voting for the charities of their choice on Twitter and Facebook.  The two charities with the most votes on the day we reach the top will have opposite sides in the record-breaking wager, with the vote leader receiving the favorite team and the runner up receiving the underdog against the spread," Robbins explained.  "The exact game on which the wager will be placed has yet to be determined, but we'll make sure it's a good match up," Robbins continued.  Charities must have 501c(3) designation in the United States to be eligible.

The BetOnline.com expedition arrived in Nepal in early April and most of the team has already arrived at Everest's Base Camp 2.  The team expects to summit and complete the record-breaking bet sometime between May 15th and May 25th.

The BetOnline.com Everest expedition is led by Everest veteran Tim Rippel of Peak Freaks Expeditions, Inc.  Rippel has been climbing and instructing professionally for 24 years.  A veteran of 27 Himalayan expeditions including Mt. Everest North and South eight times, Rippel has also successfully climbed to some of the highest peaks on various continents including Mt. Pumori, Mt. Ama Dablam, Kilimanjaro, Aconcagua (South America), Pamirs (Russia), the Canadian Rockies, Denali, and many more.

Rippel and Peak Freaks Expeditions have been successfully operating in th Himalayas since 1991.

"We're proud to have Tim Rippel of Peak Freaks, Inc. as our expedition leader and we are all quite confident in the expedition's success," said Eddie Robbins III, BetOnline.com CEO.

The public can track the expedition's progress, see live dispatches, blog posts, photos from the expedition, and find instructions on how to vote for their favorite charities at www.BetOnline.com/Everest

Gambling enthusiasts will also find a number of ‘unique' betting options based around the expedition, including odds on the BetOnline.com expedition beating Miles Obrien's (of CNN fame) expedition or the expedition encountering evidence of the fabled Himalayan ‘Yeti'.
