Holy S*%@ Part 2: Poker Playing Pedophile Priest in Jail on $1 Million Bail
When Father Kevin Gugliotta wasn’t uploading images of little Johnny being fondled, you could find this holy man in his Totowa, New Jersey confessional or on the road cashing in at a number of live poker tournaments.
Gugliotta, 54, was charged in late October with 40 counts related to child pornography and has since been stripped from his ministry at Holy Spirit Church in Union, N.J., officials with the Archdiocese of Newark confirmed. He currently sits in jail until a plea deal with PA prosecutors can be reached.
USA Today noted at the time of his arrest:
A criminal docket from a Wayne County, Pa., magisterial court listed 20 allegations against Gugliotta of possessing or viewing child pornography and 20 more of disseminating photographs or video of child sex acts. According to court records, all 40 alleged offenses occurred July 9.
Gugliotta is no small time poker player either. He’s ranked 4,192 on the United States All Time Money List and 193 on the state's All Time Money List, according to the Hendon Mob database.
Winnings include $15885 with a 4th place finish at The Commerce Poker Series in Los Angeles over the summer.
Gugliotta recently made an appearance in a Pennsylvania court for an arraignment hearing and is currently being held in a Wayne County Prison on $1 million bail.
Is it a Sin to Play Poker?
Answer: Poker is often considered a sinful activity due to its close relationship with gambling. The Bible instructs us to keep ourselves from the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10; Hebrews 13:5). The Word of God also teaches us to stay away from attempts to "get rich quick" (Proverbs 13:11; 23:5; Ecclesiastes 5:10). Further, there are far more beneficial things we can be doing with our money than wasting it on gambling (Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:7).
