Man Loses at Casino, Robs Bank, Then Returns to Gamble With Stolen Funds

A 52-year-old Charleston, West Virginia man has plead guilty to robbing a bank and using the stolen money to gamble at a casino where he had just lost all his funds.

Kerry Johnson was gambling at the Mardi Gras Casino in Nitro, just outside of Charleston.  He left a $25 chip as a hold at the blackjack table, stepped away, then headed off to the bank to commit the robbery.  He got away with $5000.  Johnson resumed play at the casino shortly after the robbery.

He was arrested the next day after detectives received an anonymous tip.  They found evidence at his home that linked Johnson to the robbery.  Surveillance images also helped investigators to crack the case.

Sentencing takes place March 2.
