Three Men Charged With Illegal Sports Betting

Three men have been charged for their alleged role in an illegal sports betting ring for more than six years.

The indictment charges Joseph Mahfood, 58, of St. Louis County, Missouri, Samuel Douglas “Doug” Hazer, 63, of Alabama, and Carol Jean “CJ” Hazer, 60, of Farmington, Missouri with two felony gambling charges and one money laundering charge.

Hazer faces an unlawful monetary transaction charge, two money laundering charges and a perjury charge.  His ex-wife has been charged with filing false tax returns as well.  The Hazers home and vehicles were also seized.  Doug Hazer had previously been sentenced to probation in 1992 for illegal gambling.

Mahfood, who was arrested last month, faces an unlawful monetary transaction charge and four counts of filing a false tax return.
