Ring Leader in Dafabet.com Online Gambling Case Sentenced

The People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on Monday sentenced  Wong Boon Leong, a Singaporean resident, to just under 15 months in prison for his role in running an illegal online gambling outfit Daftbet.com.

Wong's sentence is equivalent to the time already served since he was arrested in December 2015.  As a result, Wong should be set free almost immediately.

The other 63 defendants who joined Wong in Dafabet's activities received sentences ranging from nine months probation to three years in prison on charges of gambling and organising gambling.

The indictment claims that Wong and his accomplices opened 43 bank accounts in Vietnam to receive and transfer funds tied to the Dafabet website, which is based in the Philippines.

Over VNĐ320 billion (US$19.8 million) was transacted by the gambling ring, according to the complaint.
