FBI Hot on Heels of Online Gambling Operator

The FBI says they are “hot on the heels” of an online gambling operator they say has fled to Asia following the arrests of 13 others in the United States.

Swedish born Magnus Karlsson, was charged in a RICO case for operating a bookmaking business out of San Diego but also ran the Lucky Lady online casino and card room out of Costa Rica.  Karlsson is the only individual tied to the case who remains on the lam.

Swedish police have been notified of the warrant out for his arrest.

This is not the first time that an individual from Scandinavia has been charged with running an illegal gambling venture from the state of California.

More recently, brothers Eric and Jan Harald Portocarrero were arrested and extradited back to the United States from Norway for their role in the operation of Macho Sports.  Law enforcement at the time described Macho Sports as a “violent online gambling ring”.
