Professional Gambler Indicted for Using Wrong Social Security Number in Casino

A professional gambler known by the moniker “Vegas Dave” has been indicted for using the wrong social security number at the Wynn and Westgate sportsbooks.

David Nakama Oancea used a different social security number to place nine bets in 2015 and 2016.

Because the Bank Secrecy Act considers casinos financial institutions that are required to report transactions of $10,000 or more by filing a currency transaction, Oancea’s actions soon came to light.

He is now facing 18 counts of Social Security misuse and causing false reports.  Each of these counts carries a maximum five-year prison term.

Oancea is also being ordered to forfeit $1 million.

Via Twitter, “Vegas Dave” wrote:  “At the end of the day the truth will always come out. Can't wait till next week when the world hears what I have to say.”

The professional gambler’s claim to fame is that he helped turn a $10K student loan into a gambling empire after doubling that amount at the roulette tables.

“From there, I built my bankroll through gambling,” Oancea, 39, said. “I don’t even play table games anymore. I stick to what I’m good at.”

In Oancea’s case, that would be sports betting.

“I learned I could pick winners. I just had to manage my money. That’s where I transcended more into a professional sports bettor when I learned how to have some discipline in money management.”
