Mike Rogers to Be Named Next FBI Director: What are the Odds?

When BetOnline released its odds on who would be named the next FBI Director, former Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and current CNN National Security Commentator was instilled as the early favorite at 6-1 odds.  Any candidate named will likely endure a grueling confirmation process following the shock termination of James Comey from this position by President Donald Trump earlier in the week. 

Thursday morning it was revealed that Trump had been seriously considering Rogers.  He previously advised the Trump presidential transition team on national security issues but was asked to leave at about the same time New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was removed as head of the transition.

More recently, Rogers criticized Trump’s tweet from earlier in the year suggesting that former President Barack Obama had wiretapped Trump Tower.

“He just put another quarter in the conspiracy parking meter. They have extended this story for a week, two weeks. Makes no sense to me whatsoever,” Rogers said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Rogers, however, is well regarded by those in both parties at a time when the Democrats have said they would do everything to block the selection process unless a special prosecutor is chosen to investigate potential ties between those who served in the Trump campaign and the Russians.
