2017 NBA Playoffs: Championship Futures For Online Bookies
The 2017 NBA Playoffs have been whittled down from 16 teams and only four will remain when the Conference Finals tip off shortly.
Three Years Running
The 2017 NBA Playoffs are on tap to produce a repeat of the last two finals series. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are on a collision course for a third consecutive year.
The Warriors won the NBA Championship in 2015 with Cleveland returning the favor a year later; and the 2017 finals would be the rubber match between the NBA's two most dominant teams and two best players.
The Warriors and Cavs odds to win the NBA title continue to fall. The Warriors are currently –240 according to Bovada. Meanwhile, Cleveland clocks in at +230.
California Love
The Warriors are getting a lot of love from bookmakers. The team finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA at 67-15. Golden State lost just twice at home all season and managed to win without star Kevin Durant during the tail end of the season.
The Warriors haven't tasted defeat in the NBA Playoffs, but that could change in the Conference Finals against Houston.
However, Houston should be quite fatigued against a fresh Golden State. Regardless, bookmakers are heavily favoring the Warriors.
Max betting limits should already be in place. Pay per head agents’ layoffs accounts should be ready too, in case the warriors see too much action.
Two-Horse Race?
NBA bettors shouldn't have much thought in wagering on teams outside of the Warriors or Cavs. But if they do, San Antonio and Boston could be interesting picks, if they both get into the Conference Finals.
Unfortunately for both teams, the cream rises to the top in the NBA Playoffs, and a winner outside of Golden State or Cleveland seems unlikely.
Golden State is –900 to win the Western Conference. That's a massive line from online bookies. Oddsmakers have practically penciled the team into the NBA Finals.
Cleveland has got similar love from online bookies. The Cavs sit at –750 to meet the Warriors for a third straight year in the finals.
Golden State
The team has been there before and have thus far crushed it in the NBA Playoffs. Eight games and eight wins have come in the two opening rounds.
The team averaged 115.9 ppg during the regular season, the best in the NBA. The team wasn't just about the offense either as Golden State gave up 104.3 ppg, 11th best in the Association.
Stephen Curry is shooting well in postseason as he averages 27.1 points a night. Three other players are averaging double-digits, including Durant at 23.3.
Cleveland
Of the NBA Playoffs' top two sides, Cleveland is the one team that could slip up. If Boston is to get to the Conference Finals – currently the Celtics lead Washington three games to two – the team could give LeBron James and company fits.
The Cavs finished second behind the Celtics in the Eastern Conference's regular season. Boston was aided by Cleveland's four game losing streak during the last two weeks of the term. Meanwhile Boston's three games without a loss to close the season helped them take top spot.
Despite finishing the regular season poorly, the Cavs swept a bad Indiana team in four games before doing the same to Toronto. Cleveland finished the NBA season fourth in scoring (110.3) and 20th in opponents scoring (107.2). The team's defense could be suspect in the NBA Finals.
Of course, King James leads the way in scoring with 34.4 ppg, while two other players average double-digits. Unlike Golden State, Cleveland doesn't have the one-two punch of a Curry and Durant.
Some have said this season's NBA Playoffs aren't competitive. But NBA bettors are sure to find something to wager on as Golden State and Cleveland strive to meet again in the finals.
