The 2009 World Series of Poker, the game's marquee event of the year is officially in full swing at Las Vegas' Rio Hotel and Casino.  Thousands of players from all over the world have descended into Sin City with dreams of becoming poker's next household name and looking to earn one of the coveted bracelets awarded to each event's winner.

Event #1 Results - No Limit Hold'em Casino Employees

The 1st event of this year's series was the $500 No-Limit Hold'em Casino Employees tournament where Andrew Cohen, a bartender and former NYC resident was able to outlast a field of 866 to earn his biggest tournament win ever.

Event 2 Results - $40K No Limit Hold'em

Event 2 is considered by many to be one of the more prestigious events at this year's series, if not all of poker.  The $40,000 No Limit Hold em event was held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the tournament series and taking down the top prize in a field of 201 of poker's best was up and coming Russian poker pro Vitaly Lunkin. His impressive showing earned him close to $1.9 Million.

Event #3 - Omaha 8 or Better

Event 3 was an Omaha 8 or better tournament with a buy in of $1,500.  In perhaps one of the greatest accomplishments in WSOP history, Thang Luu defeated the field of 918 players and took home the bracelet in the event for the 2nd straight year.  Perhaps even more impressive is that in 2007, Luu was the runner up in the very same event.  It will be interesting to see if he will be able to 3-peat next year, becoming the first player in WSOP history to perform the feat.
