Trump Support Still Strong at One Sportsbook

While some European online sportsbooks are reporting an uptick on wagers that U.S. President Donald J. Trump will not complete his full term in office, one major Eurobook is reporting just the opposite--its bettors are wagering that Trump will be re-elected in 2020!

In the last week, Trump fired the FBI director who was investigating him and then gave classified information to Russian officials; the moves spurred some in Congress to call for the President's impeachment.

Some betting markets moved to reflect that possibility.

Earlier this week, British sportsbook Betfair announced increased betting on the proposition that Trump will leave office, either by resignation or impeachment, before his term ends in 2021.

The odds on Trump leaving had jumped from even money (bet $5 to win $5) last week to 5-6 (bet $6 to win $5) this week, after the President's latest actions, a Betfair spokesman said.

Irish sportsbook Paddy Power also reported this week increased wagering on props that Trump won't finish his term.

At Paddy Power, bettors can wager specifically that Trump will resign or that he will be removed from office via impeachment.

The odds that he will resign are now 2-1 (bet $1 to win $2) and the odds that he will be removed by impeachment are now 15-8 (bet $8 to win $15), a Paddy Power spokesman said.

But, a spokesman for British sportsbook William Hill told Gambling 911 in an exclusive interview Thursdaythat its bettors--called "punters" in England--have made Trump the odds-on favorite to win the 2020 U.S. Presidential election.

"At 7-4 odds (bet $4 to win $7), the latest odds from William Hill suggest that Donald Trump is very much the favorite to win a second term as President of the United States," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams, who recently replaced longtime Will Hill flack Graham Sharpe.

"Trump's nearest challenger is Mike Pence at 8-1 odds," Adams said. "Other notable challengers include (former First Lady) Michelle Obama at 12-1, (Facebook founder) Mark Zuckerberg at 20-1 and (actor) Leonardo DiCaprio at 66-1."

So for now, Trump remains the clear favorite at William Hill to be the one taking the oath of office on January 20, 2021.

“President Trump is a survivor and we see no reason why he will not serve a second term in the White House,” Adams
said.

In addition to the aforementioned Presidential possibilities, William Hill has also set betting odds on a variety of other people winning the 2020 Presidential election.

They include Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren at 10-1, New Jersey Senator Cory Booker at 16-1, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at 16-1, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo at 20-1, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders at  20-1, former U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro at 20-1, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan at 20-1, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio at 25-1, former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy at 25-1, former U.S. Vice-President Joe Biden at 25-1, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at 25-1, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine at 25-1, Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto at 28-1, Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar at 33-1, California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom at 33-1, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush at 33-1, actor George Clooney at 100-1, actor Will Smith at 100-1 and rapper Kanye West at 100-1.
