Man Injured While Fleeing to Escape Mannequin Sues Hotel Casino

A Southern California man claiming to have been frightened by a life size mannequin inside his hotel room is suing the establishment after sustaining injuries.

In his escape from the terrifying sight he received injuries to his “body, limbs, organs and nervous systems,” including some conditions that may be “permanent and disabling,” a lawsuit against the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas claims.

The plaintiff, Kent Jacobs Boutwell says he opened the door to his darkened room and spotted what he thought to be a human waiting inside to harm him.

It turned out that the perceived menace was actually a mannequin locked inside a glass cabinet that was wearing a “Miller Lite” racing suit.

"I've got some experience handling hotel casino cases," said his attorney Richard Johnson to the Associated Press. "This was certainly a new set of facts," he said about the May, 2015 incident.

He is asking for at least $10,000 in damages, payment of past and future medical expenses and loss of earnings, compensation for “pain, suffering, mental distress, anguish and fear,” plus attorney fees.

The company declined to comment on the suit but did say that the mannequins have been used in nearly all of its 2500 rooms.  They have since been removed as part of a renovation project.
