John Racener, who was the most searched for poker pro on the Gambling911.com website the first part of this year, has won the 2017 World Series of Poker $10K Dealers Choice event.
Racener was battered back in January after being accused of scamming a fellow player as part of a conglomerate of professional poker players who failed to payout on a $500,000 win. Racener reportedly later paid out his portion of the monies owed.
Racener defeated a 102-player field to win his first World Series of Poker bracelet and $273,962 in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Upon winning, Racener removed a hoodie to reveal a white shirt in honor of his mom that read “For Mom”. Racener’s mother passed away four years ago from liver cancer.
"I always said to myself that I wanted to win my first bracelet for my mom," said Racener. "She's always been my biggest fan, and she still is from up above. No matter what time of the day it was back home, with three-hour time span, she would always stay up and sweat me online all night. Even if she had to get up for work at eight a.m. She would stay up and sweat me until she had to go to work. I just really wanted to win the first one for her."
Racener is on a roll of late, cashing out $59,000 and some change on two occasions back in April, totaling over $100,000 that month.
He was interviewed just before his 7th place finished in April’s Borgata Spring Open.
